12% Voter Turnout

Straight ticket voting threatens democracy

Will you protect our democracy? Politicians who lied about voter fraud in Michigan, Arizona, and other states are causing people to stay away from the polls in 2022. For example, on May 3rd, Indiana's primary voter turnout was at record lows (about 12%).
What causes people to lose faith in our election process? Basically, voters have been gaslighted by the same techniques that spousal abusers employ. For example:
Abusers say, "Why do you make me hurt you when you bring up your stupid arguments and make me mad?" Politicians say, "How can there be no voter fraud when we see it on social media and on Tucker Carlson every week?"
Falsely attacking the legitimacy of our voter process is immoral and destructive to our democratic system of government. Campaign strategists use this technique because it has a direct effect on voter participation. This ensures that party support for their candidate is strong and the opposing party has a low voter turnout.
Thankfully, you have the power to drive truth and integrity into the campaign process and increase voter engagement. Here are some steps that will help you identify qualified candidates and engage voters.
1) Do your homework! Research candidates that are running for office and review their social media and website information. Many candidates will tell you exactly where they stand. You need to know that they support issues that are important to you and your family. If they use emotional trigger tactics to manipulate voters, beware.
2) Volunteer! Help repair damage to voter confidence by canvassing in a local neighborhood. Hand out candidate literature and answer questions. Be prepared to give evidence that voter fraud is not a problem in our state, and leave that information with them for future reference.
3) Talk to as many candidates as possible from all the political parties. Indiana is one of 6 states that have straight-ticket voting. It is not an accident that one party in our state has supermajority control of our Indiana Senate and House of Representatives. Straight ticket voting has put many poorly qualified legislators into an office when better candidates ran against them.
4) Turn off the messengers of doubt and doom. If your social media and TV programs are continuing to attack our Democracy, seek out new sources of information. Lies and abuse become real when they are repeated and reinforced. You cannot afford to subject yourself and your family to this manipulation.
We need all of our voters to engage in thoughtful and energetic participation in our November 2022 election. This is not the time to disengage from our democratic system of government.
With looming changes in our 14th Amendment rights, future Indiana State laws may become even more intrusive and disruptive to our rights as citizens. The representatives that you elect may have a profound effect on the lives of you and your family for generations to come.
